July 30 workshop

Asked to summarize the method in one phrase, Moshe offered “my aim is to make peace between the nervous system and gravity.”

In this pair of Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lessons, we’ll refine our internal mapping of the diagonal relationships of our limbs, and then make good use of this new internal mapping in a little something that just might remind you of a Virabhadrasana…

Saturday, July 30, 2011, 12 noon – 2:00 pm
Cost: $20

Regular Wednesday classes start again in September….I’ll send you an email with the details later this summer. Now that summer has finally started to seem real, I hope you’re enjoying it!

June 2011: New Wednesday class at Creative Crossing

Hello everyone!

I’m writing to tell you about my June series–same time, new place.

The series will run June 8-29, with four linked classes that will develop a powerful theme of leading action from the core. The time stays the same–Wednesdays 7:30-8:30 pm.It’s $40 for the four classes. Link to PayPal is here: or if you’re a regular, email me to reserve and you can pay at the first class.

Now for the new space: Creative Crossing, Agricola & Charles St., just behind Local Source Market. Jody Manley of Ashtanga Yoga Halifax (http://www.ashtangayogahalifax.com/) is expanding into this space with renovations taking place as I write. You enter by the door at 5781 Charles (to the right of Local Source). The space is on the main floor, down the hall and on the left. I’m excited about the space–it will be a stable home for classes, and Jody’s own yoga classes are famous, so if you haven’t managed to fit into her yoga shed in years past, you’ll now have the chance to try her teaching as well.

There’s lots of free on-street parking, and I believe you will be able to show up by 7, pick up a quick bite to eat at Local Source, and enjoy it in the sociable lobby space of Creative Crossing before class.

There’s an open house class on Sunday, June 5, 12 – 1:15. (Also with Jody and other teachers–I don’t have the full schedule, but I’ll let you know when I do.) You’re also welcome to attend the open house class.

Feldenkrais in April/May

Hi everyone!

As we segue into that wet, grey season that replaces spring in Nova Scotia, here’s a chance for you to try a series of Feldenkrais classes.

I’ve got a 4-week series, Wednesday evenings, 7:30-8:30 pm, at 5663 Cornwallis (now called the Nexus Centre), from April 20 to May 11. You can email me to reserve a spot, or pay via the paypal link here: . The room cost has increased exponentially since January, so it’s now $40/4 week series.

Meanwhile, recent classes, with a couple of exceptions, are posted here: http://kinesophics.ca/category/podcast. Check out the new recording quality. I’ve been a bit verbose on the blog since the new year, asking why we start lessons on one side or the other, where the science is at about the perennial question (to judge from my google hits) of which leg is dominant, and whether/to what extent Moshe was a behaviourist. Check this out at: http://kinesophics.ca/category/blog/

And happy spring slogging!

March Feldenkrais

Hi everyone!

Space continues to be somewhat up in the air (it will settle soon!) but we’ve got Cornwallis for sure for the month of March. So I’m going to launch into a brief 4-week series after taking a week off. And there’s ONE SPACE LEFT in that four-week series, so email quickly if you’re interested. Wednesdays 7-8, March 9 to March 30. Details here:

We’ll continue with more-or-less following along with Moshe’s 1976 San Francisco public evening class. This has been a fascinating exploration for me. Moshe’s version of how you teach an introductory series to the general public really emphasizes control of the pelvis in larger movements of the whole body, before building on that strong foundation to soften the shoulders and ribcage.

You can do the classes up to this point, in the same series we’ve done in Halifax, posted here (missing one week where I’d run my iPhone battery down!):

I hope the new recording technology is working out better for you all. And for those attending in person, I am enjoying the sense of consistency and personal connection that comes from our new independent model of running the class. So thanks!

Feldenkrais Classes and Workshops for the new year

Newsletter news:

I had to recreate the subscription list after a little fiasco with a database–some of you may have unsubscribed in the past and now may find yourselves subscribed again. Apologies! Simply scroll down to unsubscribe and it won’t happen again.

Upcoming workshop:

Asked to summarize the method in one phrase, Moshe offered “my aim is to make peace between the nervous system and gravity.”

In this 2-hour workshop, we’ll play with Archimedes’s venerable principles (managing the weight of our long levers!) and find the magic feeling of weightlessness in standing that comes from accessing postural reflexes.

Saturday, January 15, 2011, 10:30 am – 12:30 pm
Cost: $15
At the Happiness Centre, aka 5663 Cornwallis.

By some miracle of fantastic response from you all, the six-week series starting in January is FULL.

I’ve added the dates for 6-week sessions starting March 2 and May 4, and you can reserve a space any time by registering. Visit for more info.

Looking forward to seeing you in January!

Feldenkrais in March

Starting in January 2011, I’ll be teaching Awareness Through Movement classes by six-week series (with breaks in between), at the “Happiness Centre,” aka the main floor of 5663 Cornwallis Street (just off the Commons).

First series: January 5 – February 9, 2011, 7 – 8 pm.
Cost: $40*

Reserve your spot by getting your payment to me when you see me, or by using paypal–or email me for my street address.

Drop-in may be possible. Stay tuned.

And when you come, remember you can enjoy a burrito and ice cream at Dee Dee’s across the street before class!

*No reimbursement for missed classes, except in cases where that’s unreasonable. (Say you break your leg after two weeks. Then you can come to the next series for free, or you can give it to a friend. That kind of thing. Say over the six weeks you miss a couple of classes because of this and that. No reimbursement for that–but classes are so cheap you probably won’t mind. That’s the idea.)

Six-Week Series: Fundamentals (January 2011)

The votes are in…classes in January have migrated back more or less to the original Yoga Loft time and place, 7-8 pm on Wednesdays, at the “Happiness Centre,” aka the main floor of 5663 Cornwallis Street (just off the Commons).

The first series (January 5 – February 9) will be a very fundamental series exploring diagonal relationships and spirals across several axes….and there will be new twists for those of you who have been attending for a while. (I have a new set of transcripts from Moshe’s teaching to the public in 1976. Each familiar lesson has some fundamental details altered or clarified–those differences that make the difference.)

Cost: $40*

Some are complaining that this is too cheap–you’re welcome to give me more! You’ve all been so dedicated over the years, and now that I’m setting the parameters, I can express my appreciation for the investments so many of you have made in the past. And the high value that I personally place on accessibility for a practice that can be so valuable for people.

Reserve your spot by getting your payment to me when you see me, or by using paypal–or email me for my street address.

ATM Classes in January

Hello everyone,

I’m looking ahead to the new year–and a new paradigm for Feldenkrais classes.

I’m planning to do a six-week block of Feldenkrais for a small group of committed students (a nice change after years of the drop-in paradigm!). Then we’ll take a few weeks off, and then the next series…and so on.

We’ll be able to get deeper into a progressively developing theme, more tailored to you, the core group.

At this point, I need to hear from you when you would commit for the class. Please go to the doodle poll at this link:

[doodle poll now closed]

Choose the time you’d be willing to commit to a six-week class. (If you are uncertain whether you would register, select the yellow instead of the green and leave me a note to that effect.)

Depending on numbers, we’ll either be in a private home, or in the main floor space at the old Yoga Loft building. Cost will be $40 for six weeks–a bargain class, but no credit for missed classes.

I hope you’ll be able to join in!
