Vocal overtoning – August 2010

Your voice — its strength and timbre — is acutely sensitive to your postural habits. This series of Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lessons explores how you resonate your whole self with your voice, and how you support the process with your breath. As you discover your own rich timbre and the internal shapes and spaces you can create, the experience may lead to unexpected results!

You can attend the full month of classes on the theme for the full experience, or drop in as your schedule permits. Contact the Yoga Loft at 429-3330 for info.

Last class this week; New location for September

This week (Wednesday the 28th @ 7:15 pm) is the last class at the Yoga Loft–join us for a special “transitions” ATM tailored for the occasion. A celebration of the Loft ensues at the Wooden Monkey.

I’m pleased to let you know that we have a new location for September.

Ron Renz and I will continue our weekly Awareness Through Movement class–now on Thursdays–at the beautiful space of 108 Yoga on the waterfront.

Classes start September 9 and continue through December 30, 7:08 – 8:08 pm, Thursdays.

108 Yoga is in the Brewery Market, 1496 Lower Water St. Suite 411. Enter via the South Arch. See the details here. Parking is on the streets–and it’s free in the evenings.

You can pay by class as a drop-in, or by ten-class pass. The best deal is an unlimited access pass if you also do yoga and other great classes at 108. I think you’ll find a good synergy between the Feldenkrais classes and the studio’s approach to wellness and vitality.

108 Yoga offers you the convenience of paying on-line, and of booking your spot in the class ahead of time (drop-ins still welcome). See details here.

For online class participants, I’ll start recording again in the fall (I had a few battery failures this spring).

Bad joke alert! Local regulars know I like to joke that Feldenkrais could adopt the Alexander Keith’s slogan. The local brewery used to advertise itself by the line “those who like it, like it a lot.” As someone “from away,” I never really got that as a slogan–Keith’s is the choice of alcoholics? Is that it? In any case, here I am, starting my 11th season of ATM classes in the historical brewery establishment of Mr. Alexander Keith himself. Cheers, everyone!

Feldenkrais News – July 2010

Two news items from Halifax–

1) I’ve got a workshop this weekend at the Yoga Loft, 1:30-3:30 on Sunday (July 11). The theme is “sitting cross-legged” — in this pair of Feldenkrais lessons, you will find some surprising connections through your spine and shoulders that enable your pelvis and legs to rest more comfortably in cross-legged sitting. Registration in advance is required. Contact the Yoga Loft at 429-3330 to register, preferably by tomorrow! (Thursday before the workshop.)

2) An era is coming to a end. I’m sad to say that The Yoga Loft is closing at the end of July. It’s been a wonderful space to teach for the last 5+ years, with great energy and a supportive community. I’d like to thank Robert Webber for his years of hosting the Wednesday evening Feldenkrais class in its various configurations, and wish him the best in his next (ad)ventures. I’m teaching tonight and the last Wednesday night of July, and Ron the two in between. We’d love to see you there (7:15-8:15).

Ron and I are taking August off, and working on options for the fall. We’ll let you know.
